Syracuse Orange Shocked in First Round

The Syracuse Orange men’s lacrosse team’s season ended a little bit earlier than expected as the Bryant Bulldogs knocked them off 10-9 in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

The second-seeded Orange were led by the four points of Kevin Rice (three goals and one assist) and the two goals by Nicky Galasso. Six different players scored for the Orange but that was no match for the play of the Bulldogs, who were led by Tucker James’ six points (four goals and two assists).

The Bulldogs got off to a great start as they ended the first quarter with an early 3-1 lead. The Orange were able to cut the lead to just one at the break, 5-4, by outscoring the Bulldogs 3-2 in the second quarter. After the Bulldogs extended their lead to 7-5 in the third, the Orange came out in the final quarter and scored the first two goals to tie the game. Then James responded by scoring his final two goals in a three-minute span, giving the 19th ranked Bulldogs a lead they would never relinquish.

The Bulldogs will face the Maryland Terrapins in the quarterfinals on May 17th at noon eastern time on ESPN2.
