After suffering their first two losses on the season, the Syracuse Orange’s three week reign at the top of both polls came to an end Monday.
The Orange, 25-2 (12-2), fell to fourth in the Associated Press Top 25 and fifth in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll. The Orange didn’t receive any first place votes in either poll. The Florida Gators, who are currently on a 19-game winning streak, took over the top spot in both polls, followed by the Wichita State Shockers, the nation’s only remaining unbeaten team, and then the Arizona Wildcats. Rick Pitino’s Louisville squad was ranked fourth in the Coaches’ Poll, keeping the Orange out of the top four.
The Duke Blue Devils, who went 2-1 last week including a victory over Syracuse on Saturday, are sixth in the AP Poll and seventh in the Coaches’. The University of Virginia, the ACC leader, ranks 12th in the AP and 11th in the Coaches’ Poll. The Orange travel to Charlottesville to face the Cavaliers on Saturday. The North Carolina Tar Heels are the fourth and final ACC team in both polls, ranking 19th in the AP and 21st in the Coaches’.
The Orange will play their next game Monday night against the unranked Maryland Terrapins. Tip is at 7 p.m. ET.
