Syracuse Orange Leave 2013 Unbeaten With Win Over Eastern Michigan

Syracuse raced out to an early lead, but Eastern Michigan hung around before the Orange pulled away for a 70-48 victory.  It was the 51st straight non-conference win in the Carrier Dome for SU.  It was the fourth time in the last five seasons that the Orange finished their non-conference schedule unbeaten.

Syracuse led by 20 with 7:33 remaining in the first half, but the Eagles cut the lead to 37-32 in the early first half.

Jerami Grant helped Syracuse to the fast start scoring 9 of the first 11 Orange points and finished with 15 point and 8 rebounds. Rakeem Christmas also added 15 points shooting 7 for 8 from the field.  Glenn Bryant led the Eagles with 19 points.

Syracuse finished the non-conference part of their schedule 13-0 and will begin Atlantic Coast Conference play against Miami on January 4th.

TAKEAWAYS

NO DC – DaJuan Coleman missed the game with a left knee bruise.  It was the first game Coleman has not started this season.  He is listed day-today.  Grant got the start in his place.

THE OTHER TYLER – With Coleman out, Tyler Roberson had some productive playing time in the first half.  He played seven minutes, scored 2 points, had 4 boards and an assist.  He would finish

A TURNOVER?  ARE YOU KIDDING? – Tyler Ennis continued to take care of the ball. Although he didn’t put up the zero in the turnover column like he did against Villanova last Saturday, his two turnovers were countered by 9 assists including a highlight reel behind-the-back pass and several alley-oop passes.

WELCOME, BACK! – Eastern Michigan head coach Rob Murphy was an assistant for Jim Boeheim for seven seasons.  Eagles center De’Shonte Riley was on the Orange roster from 2009 to 2001 before transferring to Eastern Michigan.  He scored zero points and had one steal.
