Syracuse’s impressive win over Villanova on Saturday convinced three voters from the Associated Press poll to change their minds from the previous week and vote the Orange No. 1. However, the rest are sticking with Arizona as the No. 1 team in the country, at least for the time being.
Syracuse remained No. 2 with five first place votes, but still 70 points overall behind the Wildcats. Arizona received 60 first place votes.
The Orange opponent from Saturday, former Big East rival Villanova, fell from No. 8 to No. 11.
Only two ACC teams were listed in the top 10: Syracuse and Duke.
North Carolina checked in at No. 19 while Florida State and Pitt received votes but didn’t make the Top 25.
It looks like a down year for the ACC , even with two of the new additions, Syracuse and Pitt, in the rankings, but only Duke, UNC and Florida State representing the old guard.
Ohio State, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Oklahoma State, Duke, Wichita State, Baylor and Oregon round out the Top 10.
The Orange will be in action next on New Year’s eve against Eastern Michigan and then begin ACC play on January 4th against Miami. Syracuse’s first road ACC game will be on January 7th at old Big East foe Virginia Tech.
