Syracuse Orange Cruise Past Binghamton Bearcats

Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

Syracuse cruised past Binghamton 93-65 at the Carrier Dome last Saturday.  C.J. Fair led the Orange with 19 points and 4 steals.  Trevor Cooney chipped in 17 points while Jerami Grant,  DaJuan Coleman and Ron Patterson  also scored in double figures.    Coleman had a team-high 10 rebounds.  Jordan Reed led the Bearcats with 26 points.

TAKEAWAYS

  • Even though the Orange trailed early 11-3, they led at halftime 54-30.  This allowed Coach Boeheim to go deeper than the 7 or 8 players.  Fair, who rarely misses a minute, spent more time on the court than anyone wearing white and it was only 29 minutes.  The good news is Ron Patterson took advantage of his opportunity with a career-high 10 points including two 3-pointers and four points.  I think Patterson will be a good player in the future, but will probably not make the rotation this season.
  • The foul shooting was subpar again.   58.3% is going to lose them games in the ACC.  Binghamton also shot 11 more free throws.
  • The Orange only had six blocks which is surprising considering the size advantage they have over the Bearcats.
  • Syracuse had 34 points off turnovers which might be the best Orange stat of the night (after the score).

“I think it is a work in progress. He (DaJuan Coleman) is working on it, doing some things better. His position is better; he is finishing better out there.  It is a process. We are doing a little better job looking for him. But we have to get better inside. It is something we continually work on and are trying to improve.”
