Why Syracuse Has The Edge Over Michigan

After watching the Michigan-Florida game, I feel like Syracuse got the better match up for down in Atlanta.

I flip flopped back and forth before the game started on who I would rather see the Orange meet in the Final Four, and I think that in the end it worked out. This is a team that has a couple of shooters, but can’t match up athletically with Syracuse in my opinion. Trey Burke is an unbelievable athlete, but this Syracuse defense should be able to limit him in his productiveness and force his teammates to make plays.

The Wolverines have a coach that is extremely familiar with the Syracuse zone, with Jogn Belein running the show in Michigan after a career playing the Orange at both West Virginia and division 2 LeMoyne College in Syracuse. While this definitely helps, my counter to that would be that Buzz Williams and Tom Crean both knew the zone as well. It doesn’t matter how familiar a coach is with a zone, if their players can’t execute their game plan it won’t make a difference.

And then there is Jim Boeheim’s history in the nationa semifinals. Boeheim is undefeated in this round, and with a week to prepare for Michigan, I believe he will have the team ready to go come game time. This team is playing to their potential defensively, and if they can imprve their offense by this weekend, they are going to be an extremely difficult team to beat.

This game really comes down to who is the hotter team, but looking at the big picture  I think Syracuse is in a better position to do so. With the Orange playing defense as well as they have in this four game stretch, I don’t see a scenario where Michigan can stop the Orange from getting to the title game.
