Syracuse’s NCAA Tournament Resume

Selection Sunday is upon us!

At 6 pm eastern, the Syracuse Orange will know their path for a run to Atlanta in the Final Four. Syracuse had a disappointing second half collapse to Louisville in the Big East Championship last night, but finish the week with some solid wins over two top-25 teams in the past four days. Here is the resume for Jim Boeheim’s squad:

Record

26-9

Conference Record

14-8

Ranking

#19

RPI

14

Vs. Top 25

6-4

Quality Wins

Louisville, Georgetown, Notre Dame

Bad Losses

UConn, Temple, Villanova

Projections for the Orange range anywhere from a 3 seed to a 5 seed. Probably the best bracket projection I’ve seen had Syracuse as the three seed in the west behind Gonzaga and Ohio State. The Orange are just as good as both of those teams, and would be more than capable of winning that bracket.

The fact that Louisville could very likely get the overall #1 seed after last night should be encouraging for Syracuse fans. While the collapse was monumental, it still happened to a very good team, and there are a lot of positives to take away from the first half of last night.

With the Orange’s resume, I really think they will get a favorable ruling from the selection committee as to where they will be seeded. At the end of the day though, it really comes down to match ups within the bracket that determines a team’s fate. If you told me Syracuse could either be a 3 seed in a bracket with Louisville, or a 4 seed on Gonzaga’s bracket, I’d take Gonzaga any day of the week…Twice on Sunday.

So where do you think the Orange should be seeded? What kind of match ups do you want to see in the tournament?
