The Syracuse women’s lacrosse team is the nations top team heading in to the 2013 season, according to the daBeer preseason media poll. The Orange edged out defending national champion Northwestern, totaling five first-place votes to the Wildcats’ four. The Orange lost to Northwestern in the national championship game last season.

While this is excellent news for the women who are coming off of their most successful season in school history, this just raises expectations for Gary Gait and company this spring. Syracuse has some very tough games this year, including games at Florida and at Northwestern to highlight the schedule. The lacrosse programs at Syracuse have always scheduled tough, so we will quickly find out if this number one ranking is deserved.

The women are currently 1-0 following a win over Jacksonville State, and host Maryland February 17.
