Zach Allen de-commits from Syracuse

The first major blow to Syracuse’s upcoming recruiting class after Doug Marrone’s departure is a big one. Zach Allen, the highly-touted signal caller from Texas, changed his mind at the last minute on Saturday. After reassuring Cuse Nation that he would still be suiting up next season, Allen had a change of heart and decided to instead commit to TCU.

This is huge news for the football team still reeling from a whirlwind past week.  The loss of Doug Marrone and Offensive Coordinator Nathaniel Hackett proved to be too much for Allen, and I can’t say I entirely blame him. If two people are at the forefront of your recruitment only to suddenly be gone months before you’re scheduled to be on campus, it has a big effect on you. Even with Scott Shafer’s terrific press conference Friday, it just wasn’t enough to sway Allen on the Orange.

At the end of the day I want my recruits 100% committed to the University and team. If Zach Allen had second thought’s on coming here, then I accept him choosing TCU instead and wish him the best. The only real issue I have is that he came out earlier in the week saying he was still “in,” only to back out a few days later. However, that’s what happens when your 18 years old, so I can’t really harp on that. Let’s hope this doesn’t turn out as another Ray Rice deal.

On to the next one. Austin Wilson, you’re up!
