The “Battle on the Midway” between Syracuse and San Diego State on the USS Midway has been rescheduled, the Syracuse Post-Standard is reporting. The game was originally scheduled for Friday night, but concerns over bad weather has lead to the rescheduling:
“We remain committed to this once-in-a-lifetime experience for our student-athletes and our fans.” said Syracuse Director of Athletics Dr. Daryl Gross in the release. “We are very sorry for the inconvenience this change may have caused our fans. The weather predictions have forced the postponement.”
No. 9 Syracuse was scheduled to play No. 20 San Diego State Friday on the flight deck of the USS Midway, a retired aircraft carrier docked in San Diego Harbor. Game time had been scheduled for 5 p.m. Pacific Time.
James Thomas, a meteorologist from the National Weather Service in San Diego, said there is a 75 percent chance that showers will fall on the city between the hours of 4 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Saturday.
The forecast for Sunday in San Diego calls for temperatures in the high 60s, with winds at 8 mph. There is no chance for rain.
If this is what it takes to make the game happen on the USS Midway then I’m all for it. I’m sure there are a lot of fans of both teams who are relieved that they didn’t spend $1000+ to watch the game inside of a casino events center.
Stay tuned as we will make updates available as they come to us.
