The Stony Brook Seawolves Come At The Perfect Time For Syracuse

The timing couldn’t be better for the Syracuse Orange.

The Stony Brook Seawolves come to town for a Saturday night match up this weekend in the Carrier Dome coming off of an 0-2 start to the season for the Orange including losses to Northwestern and USC. What is being called the best 0-2 team in the country looks to get in the win column over the FCS Seawolves, who made it to the playoffs in their football subdivision last season.

Last season, the Orange defeated another subdivision team in  Maine 21-14 in a game that many pointed to as a disappointment because of the close score. This season, with the Orange looking for their first win in almost an entire calender year, will be pleased with any result that brings them a victory.

Following the inspired loss to USC in a game where the Orange had the ball and a chance to take the lead in the 4th quarter, Syracuse will be looking to make a statement this weekend as they look to prove that they are indeed a contender for the Big East title. The Orange take a top-25 calibur offense (2nd in offensive YPG) in to the game, showing the development and great quarterbacking play from Ryan Nassib this season.

The timing for this game is absolutely perfect. The Orange badly need a victory, and a hopeful blowout at that. The Orange showed no fear or intimidation in their losing effort against the Trojans, and need to keep the momentum rolling from last week’s performance. With a road game at Minnesota next week, the Orange absolutely can go 2-0 before the bye week and be at .500 before conference play begins.

I’m not sure if this game should be declared a must not lose rather than a must win. It is an evening game (awesome for tailgating!), and the Orange faithful should leave the Dome on Saturday with a victory in hand.

Stay tuned this week for our breakdown of the Syracuse-Stony Brook match up.
