My FanSided Preseason Top 25 Ballot

Inside The Loud House’s sister site Saturday Blitz has instituted a weekly top 25 college football poll in which I was given a vote for. Each week after I cast my vote, I will release my full top 25 here, and explain some of my selections. My preseason top 25 vote went as follows:

I only have one Big East team in the top 25, and it is not even the team that I predicted would win the whole conference. I looked at this poll from the perspective of the top 25 teams with the most proven talent, rather than potential talent. While I believe that the Louisville Cardinals will win the conference at the leadership of Teddy Bridgewater and company, I believe that South Florida have the most established and proven veterans in the conference, which is why they are in my preseason top 25 and Louisville is not. I believe that by the end of the season both teams will be in the top 25, however right now I can’t put Louisville in until they prove something to me.

  • Okay, I admit it. I regret not correcting my vote and putting Louisville at 25 and South Florida at 26. Having a vote in this poll definitely puts in perspective how insignificant these polls really are, and how easy it is to make such a mistake. As a blogger I shouldn’t be saying this because polls are great water cooler talk, but that doesn’t change the fact that they have absolutely no impact on anything whatsoever.
  • This vote was cast back in early August, prior to Silas Redd transferring to USC. That means that I thought USC was the national championship favorite prior to getting the 1,000+ yard rusher from last season. Now I think they are even heavier favorites. I still maintain that it would have been awesome to have them in the Carrier Dome, however it is not a bad conciliation to be playing a team of that caliber in the non conference regardless of the venue as it will be a great indicator as to where the Orange stand prior to Big East play.
  • If there were a playoff this season, my top 25 would signify two pac-12 teams playing two SEC teams for the right to get to the national championship. Don’t be surprised if that is the same case next year. I said initially that a four team college football playoff meant absolutely nothing for Syracuse, and it is very clear that even with a playoff it will be much of the same for the Orange as the current system is right now.

So there you have it. My fansided preseason top 25 poll. As with any poll in the preseason, it can be thrown in to complete upheaval and confusion following week one games with all of these teams. I have five SEC teams in the top ten, and I can assure you that by season’s end that will not be the case. Even I know the status of my poll will be completely changed, but yet I still vote this way. Time to start releasing the first top 25 polls at midseason? Sounds great to me.
