“I just want to be a part of something great,” Edwards said in a news conference at Tottenville High School. “It’s hard to say no to a school that is recognizing your talent.”
Augustus Edwards, a 6’1, 220 pound running back from Staten Island has committed to Syracuse in a news conference. Edwards led his team with 995 yards and 10 touchdowns while taking Tottenville High School to the semifinals of their playoffs.
Edwards is rated in the top 50 for running backs in his high school class, choosing Syracuse over schools like Maryland, Miami, North Carolina State, and Virginia. This is a major recruiting victory, as these schools are all places Syracuse will be recruiting against when they make the move to the ACC.
It is pretty clear that the talent level in recruiting has been consistently rising since the move to the ACC. I believe that Doug Marrone is a solid recruiter who will only recruit even better players the more he gets attractive tools to recruit with such as the new conference. With the relatively new Manly football facilities, along with the largest Dome stadium in the northeast and a conference that plays all up and down the east coast, I believe that Marrone will get Syracuse back to where it needs to be as he continues to get solid recruits from the northeast.
