The deadline was midnight Saturday, and Boise State beat that deadline to confirm their withdrawal from the Mountain West Conference, the Idaho Statesman is reporting. This withdrawal makes it all but certain that the Broncos will join the Big East in the 2013 season.
Beating the deadline saved Boise State around $2.5 million, where their exit would have jumped to $5 million had they missed the deadline.
The official withdrawal makes it pretty certain that Boise State will remain with their commitment to join the Big East for football. The more the future Big East takes shape, I believe the clearer Syracuse’s future will take shape as well. With the impending move to the ACC, Syracuse fans would love for the Big East to figure out what is going on so we can get a clearer picture as to when the Orange will leave the conference.
The future Big East for football in 2013 will have Boise State, Central Florida, Cincinnati, Connecticut, Houston, Louisville, Memphis, Rutgers, San Diego State, SMU, South Florida, and Temple with Navy joining in 2015.
Every time I read that list I get more and more thankful that we are gone.
